Mike's Foreign Car Service has a rich history that dates back to 1973. Founded by Mike Caradonna Sr., the business has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years. Born in a small town in southern Italy, Mike Sr. began his journey in the trade of carpentry but soon realized it wasn't his calling. He eventually became a mechanic and worked in various garages before moving to America in 1958.
Our Story
Mike Sr. worked as a mechanic in New York City for two years before moving to Columbus, Ohio in 1960. He worked at a NASH Rambler dealership on West Broad Street and later at the Dick Clifton Dealership. In 1967, Mike Sr. opened his own dealership, European Sports Cars, which sold Fiats and MG's. However, the partnership dissolved six years later, and Mike Sr. moved to the Citco Gas station at 1325 W. broad street.
The Birth of Mike's Foreign Car Service
With only $200, Mike Sr. started his own business, focusing solely on car repairs. He eventually built an addition onto the back of the main building, and on July 3rd, 1973, Mike's Foreign Car Service was born. In 1980, Mike Jr., Mike Sr.'s son, started working part-time at the shop. After graduating high school in 1982, Mike Jr. became a full-time mechanic and gradually took on more responsibility in the business.
The Future
In 1996, Mike Sr. retired, and Mike Jr. took over the company. Today, Mike Jr. is the owner of Mike's Foreign Car Service, serving some of the original customers' grandchildren and working on some of the same cars. The business has evolved over the years, adapting to the changing times and technology.
