Cooper's Auto Service, Inc. is a complete foreign and domestic auto repair and service center that has been serving the Portland, Oregon community since 1946. Founded by Robert Cooper and his son Keith, Cooper's Auto Service has grown from a small operation out of a leased gas station to a reputable and trusted repair facility at its current location on 10356 NE Halsey St. As a third-generation, family-owned and operated business, Cooper's Auto Service takes pride in providing personal and effective customer experiences built on a foundation of honesty and quality work.

humble beginnings

The Cooper family's journey began in depression era Kansas, with dreams of greener pastures out west. When the anticipated jobs didn't materialize following the conclusion of WWII, the Coopers decided to take a leap of faith and start a small business of their own. Robert managed the day-to-day operations at the gas station, performing mechanical repairs during the week, while Keith attended college and fixed body damage on weekends. Their reputation for honesty and quality work spread quickly, allowing them to purchase a gas station of their own in 1951.

expansion and growth

The following two decades saw rapid growth, as the original structure expanded several times and a larger two-story building was added next door. Additionally, a separate parts business evolved along with other specialty services. By the time of Robert's death in 1971, Cooper's Auto Service had become a well-respected and trusted repair facility in Portland.

navigating challenges

The next two decades proved challenging, as the automotive industry faced oil embargoes, swings in buying habits, and changes in technology. Keith's death in 1988 left the business at a crossroads, but his son Corry and youngest daughter Shelley stepped up to fill the void. With a focus on upgrading facilities, investing in new equipment, and reinforcing customer service, they successfully rebuilt the business to its former level of performance and quality.
